Conveniently located to serve the areas of Lafayette, CA and East Bay

There is a non-invasive device that boasts similar results to liposuction without the incisions and downtime of surgery. CoolSculpting is a remarkable fat-freezing procedure that can get you started on a healthy lifestyle. It employs fat-freezing technology to reveal the trimmer inner you. The procedure is ideal for reducing fat in otherwise intractable areas that have been resistant to the benefits of diet and exercise. The inner and outer thighs are just such an area for many men and women, but Dr. Elizabeth Lee can help.

Dr. Lee’s ArtfulSurgery is an aesthetic practice serving California’s Bay Area communities east of San Francisco with expert plastic surgery and medspa services. She is impressively trained and eminently qualified. Dr. Lee is an alumnus of Northwestern University’s Honors Program in Medicine with a postgraduate C.V. that includes residencies in both General Surgery and in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. She studied Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at the Buncke Clinic in San Francisco.

Before & After Photos

CoolSculpting is a body contouring procedure that leverages a process called cryolipolysis to non-invasively remove fat cells from the body. In cryolipolysis (fat-freezing), adipose fat is cooled below body temperature—but not low enough to cause harm to the overlying skin or the underlying muscles. The treated fat cells undergo apoptosis (a localized death of the cells) and are naturally processed through the body’s lymphatic system. CoolSculpting is a proven science with real results. It is an FDA-approved procedure to reduce fat deposits on nine areas of the body, including the thighs and the “banana roll” of tissue beneath the buttocks.[1]

The data is in from numerous studies into the cold, hard facts of CoolSculpting. The results are real, particularly at the inner and outer thighs where patients report some of the highest satisfaction rates.

At ArtfulSurgery, we’re able to remove up to 25 to 50% of fat from the target areas with CoolSculpting.

It is important to differentiate between “fat reduction” and “weight loss” when discussing the benefits of CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss procedure. Weight loss is accomplished mainly through diet and exercise. When we gain or lose weight, our fat cells swell and contract accordingly. The aim of CoolSculpting is fat reduction. The fat-freezing technique reduces the actual number of fat cells in the treatment area. Fat cells are more sensitive to cold than the surrounding tissue. CoolSculpting brings the subdermal lipid tissue down to a target temp—between 12 and 41°F (-11 to +5°C). Rather than face the cold, fair-weather fat cells wither and leave the body.[2]

The Cold, Hard Facts of CoolSculpting

We are CoolSculpting experts at ArtfulSurgery. Using the fat-freezing technique, Dr. Lee can remove up to 25 to 50% of fat from a target area without a single incision.[3]

Ideal Candidates for CoolSculpting in the Bay Area

Ideal candidates are men and women within 20 lbs. of their goal weight. Even though you eat well and are relatively fit, troublesome fat bulges remain at the inner and outer thighs.

CoolSculpting is designed for body contouring, not weight loss. Our patients show the most significant and enduring results when they incorporate the procedure into a grander strategy for health and fitness. If you’re already working hard to look your best, CoolSculpting might be the next step to sculpt your thighs and make those banana rolls banana split.

Your Personal Consultation at ArtfulSurgery

Patients seeking CoolSculpting will find a warm, inviting atmosphere at ArtfulSurgery. Dr. Elizabeth Lee prides herself on her artful skills. That’s because she brings both her extensive knowledge and authentic empathy to every consultation.

Your appointment will include an examination of the target areas—in this case, the inner and outer thighs.

When coupled with a review of your medical history and a discussion of your aesthetic goals, Dr. Lee will determine your eligibility for the procedure. Before your appointment concludes, the doctor will set expectations and impart the necessary preparation instructions for your CoolSculpting procedure.

Preparation for CoolSculpting of the Thighs

Preparation for CoolSculpting of the Thighs

CoolSculpting is non-invasive, so preparation is minimal. Don’t fret if you have a low pain tolerance. Most patients report very little discomfort beyond some initial tingling in the target area. This is caused by the device’s suction applicators and the rush of cold that follows. Fortunately, cold temperatures have their own numbing properties. The numbness quickly sets in and you may even find yourself nodding off for a nap before the procedure is over.

Be sure to follow any of Dr. Lee’s individual instructions with fidelity. And, if you have any questions prior to your appointment, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at ArtfulSurgery where your health, safety and peace of mind are our top priority.

What Happens During My CoolSculpting Procedure?

Most appointments are done in under an hour. Before your procedure begins, Dr. Lee will delineate your treatment areas in multicolored marker. This is where the artistic aspect of CoolSculpting comes into play. Choice and placement of the CoolSculpting applicators are at the doctor’s discretion; it plays a large role in your results. Dr. Lee will make sure that the bulging areas of your inner and outer thighs are adequately covered so that you can reap the most benefit from your treatment.

Which CoolSculpting Applicators are Ideal for the Inner and Outer Thighs?

  • CoolFit – ideal for areas with vertical fat accumulation, like the inner thighs
  • CoolSmooth – ideal for non-pinchable areas of fat, like the outer thighs

You will be asked to lie down. Then, we will glaze your thighs in protective gel prior to the application of the CoolFit and/or CoolSmooth applicators. The applicators gently seize your skin with reverse pressure. The light suction is intended to enhance their precision. Soon, they will deliver their cooling energy to the target areas.

Once you are comfortable, enjoy streaming entertainment on a widescreen TV.

When Dr. Lee removes your applicator paddles, you might notice a firm lump in the treatment area. This is frozen fat and the protrusion is only temporary. We will massage the treatment area to break up the fat and kickstart the excretion process before sending you on your way.

Recovery From CoolSculpting

The beauty of CoolSculpting is that there is no commitment to an extended recovery. You will be able to leave the ArtfulSurgery office soon after your appointment is over. You may experience some swelling in your thighs accompanied by tingling and tenderness in the treatment area. There may be some itchiness, too, as your tissues recover. However, you can expect nearly all of these symptoms to subside within a few weeks.

The results of CoolSculpting are not immediate because the fat-freezing technique only initiates the apoptosis process. The process of fat-cell-death-and-excretion continues for up to six months following your first treatment. But, you should begin to notice your newly contoured and sculpted thighs beginning to take shape after the first month.

For optimal results, follow-up treatments will be scheduled no sooner than 30 days following the initial treatment to allow your tissue time to recover.

CoolSculpting Post-Procedure Timeline

  1. Two to three weeks: any swelling and tenderness should subside
  2. One month: you should see the first signs of your results; follow-up visit with Dr. Lee to assess progress
  3. Thirty to sixty days: if necessary, return to ArtfulSurgery for additional treatment
  4. Three Months: follow-up visit with Dr. Lee to assess progress
  5. Six months: fat loss is generally complete; follow-up visit with Dr. Lee to assess progress
  6. 12 Months: skin tightening is finished and final results are achieved; follow-up visit with Dr. Lee to assess progress
