Muffin top. Spare tire. Dad bod. Pooch. Pudge.
These are all names for what many patients do not want hanging around their midsections. Due to genetics or lifestyle, a stomach surrounded by fat may be difficult to eliminate. Countless ab workouts, restrictive dieting, and even wearing a sweat belt around your stomach can be ineffective in reducing the pudge. CoolSculpting your belly can reduce and eliminate stubborn fat deposits that are giving you that spill-over effect when you put on your favorite jeans.
With CoolSculpting, you can achieve a flatter stomach with no incisions and zero downtime!
CoolSculpting is a safe, FDA-cleared, non-invasive procedure that aids in fat reduction in the abdominal area where visible fat deposits are difficult to reduce. CoolSculpting is not a substitute for weight loss. CoolSculpting is a technique that contours the body. Your procedure will come with noticeable results as a single CoolSculpting session can reduce fat deposits by 20% – 25% in treated areas.*

Types of Fat
As contradictory as it may seem, fat is an important component of our lives. Having fat stores within the body provides us with a survival mechanism. Essentially, when food, and thus, energy is scarce, our bodies will use fat to keep us going in extreme conditions. These days we do not have to regularly go through food scarcity periods due to weather or supply constraints like our ancestors once did. Because of this, the excess fat we carry around our midsections may not serve as significant a purpose in modern times.
There are three types of fat housed in the body that operate in different ways. These include visceral, subcutaneous, and essential fat.
This category of fat is as it sounds – it is fat that is an essential part of your body’s performance. Essential fat is found in bone marrow, muscles, and organs and helps ensure metabolic functioning.
Visceral fat is a type of storage fat that is found around the internal organs of the abdominal cavity. Excess visceral fat can greatly affect your health; causing problems such as diabetes, cardiovascular issues, and even cancer. This fat can be effectively reduced through appropriate diet and exercise.
This is the “pinchable” fat on your body. Subcutaneous fat is also a storage fat and is located just under the skin. CoolSculpting targets your subcutaneous fat to slim and shape your overall silhouette.
It has been found that a significant amount of fat accumulation around the abdomen, either visceral or subcutaneous, is a risk factor for a number of health conditions. A waistline of greater than 35 inches and 40 inches in women and men, respectively, can be an indicator of excess fat in the body. The expanded midsection can also be a sign that the individual should embrace a healthier lifestyle. CoolSculpting of the stomach can get rid of the subcutaneous fat in this area, but it will not target visceral fat deep in the abdomen.

CoolSculpting of the stomach is quick and comfortable. You will be able to return to your plans for the day following a CoolSculpting appointment.
When you arrive at ArtfulSurgery for your abdominal CoolSculpting appointment, we will have you change into garments that will be more comfortable to wear during the procedure. You will recline in a comfortable lounge chair while the CoolSculpting technology is at work. We will follow the plan designed during your consultation with Dr. Lee.
Once you are comfortably situated, the Artful Surgery CoolSculpting Specialist who will be administering your CoolSculpting treatment will apply a clear gel pad on your abdomen. This pad will be a barrier between your skin and the CoolSculpting panel, protecting your skin during the freezing process. It also helps the suction applicator remain in place during treatment. The CoolSculpting applicator chosen will reflect the treatment plan and best fit your specific abdominal contours.
The chosen applicator will be appropriately positioned on your stomach and you will feel a sucking sensation as it adheres to your skin. It may cause a temporary pinching feeling which may last no more than one minute. During your CoolSculpting procedure, you may feel cold sensations on your stomach. This can be likened to having an ice pack placed against your skin. You will also experience numbing as the area becomes colder to treat the fat cells.
You will be comfortable for the duration of the CoolSculpting cycle.
For the remainder of your appointment, the CoolSculpting technology is at work, freezing away the fat on your belly. Now you can relax! Patients are able to watch TV, use their phones, read, and even sleep during the procedure. Once the CoolSculpting treatment has ended, the applicator is removed from your stomach. The CoolSculpting Specialist will then massage your abdomen for a few minutes in order to break up the fat deposits and make it easier for your body to remove the affected cells. After your massage, you will be able to return to your regular activity. Your body will continue to break down and remove the affected fat cells from your belly over the next 4-6 months. The only thing you need to do to aid in preserving your slimmer silhouette is There is maintaining a stable body weight close to the day of your CoolSculpting session. From here you can watch your fat loss process evolve!
CoolSculpting of your abdomen does not require a recovery period. Following your appointment, you are able to go about your normal day. You may notice that the skin on your stomach may be red, swollen, numb, or sore following the CoolSculpting procedure. You may also experience tingling as the feeling returns to your belly. This is common and should subside within a few days. Should you have tingling that feels uncomfortable during this time, call us immediately. The professionals at ArtfulSurgery can help.

CoolSculpting is not indicated for individuals with cryoglobulinemia (the presence of certain antibodies in the blood that thicken in cold temperatures), cold agglutinin disease (a type of anemia where the body’s immune system destroys red blood cells when exposed to cold temperatures, usually following a viral infection), or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria (a disorder where red blood cells are destroyed when moving from cold to warm temperatures).
CoolSculpting of the stomach has not been studied in pregnant persons in clinical trials.
CoolSculpting is not a weight loss solution; it is a fat reduction and body contouring procedure. Candidates for CoolSculpting of the abdomen are relatively healthy persons who are able to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to keep their weight stable for optimal results.
